I completely agree with squane - the vibe was magical that evening and was wonderful to preface it all by having the afternoon to watch MOE and String Cheese. It was an unexpected surprise to feel that exchange between the audience and musicians and hear that sound once more - they were certainly locked into each other; so thankful to be a part of - lot of great memories.

Sless sounds more like Garcia than Kimock. Period. Don't believe me? Listen to both 7-2 and 7-3-99 Phil shows. I even listened to the Club Front rehearsal 6-28-99. Same conclusion. Listen to the Stella Blue. Kimock plays pedal steel, and Barry plays the Jerry licks. Cold Rain and snow is the same story. In fact Sless was turned up more in the mix those two shows(w/Kreutzman) than Kimock. And believe me, because I am a huge Steve Kimock fan. But those days aren't gone. If anything, Phil playing with Barry Sless these days breath refreshing life back into Phils sound. And yes, he sounds and plays like Garcia, more so than Kimock in my humble opinion. Doubt it? Listen closely to those sound board recordings. Kimock is left speaker, Sless is right. At times I almost felt bad for Kimock while listening to it because Barry was just laying it out for him the way it is supposed to be played, the way Jerry played it. Oh by the way, I was at this show at the Greek, my first time. I was blown away at how awesome the show was, I bought tickets for fall 99 when Kimock before Kimock left tour and it was a huge let down. It has been for years. But this business that only Kimock can play those Garcia licks is preposterous. Not to mention that JGB guitarist. The footprints here is my single favorite piece of music, live or studio, definately post Jerry, maybe more. Get this one for the footprints if not anything else. The Birdsong soars as well. Kimock was getting off more this night than the first night, for sure. The sound is way better than the tape I have of this one. So it is a keeper.

As Squane says below, Kimock is the ONLY man who comes close to Jerry and I might even go as far as saying he was better than Jerry in the mid-90's

Gene And Roy is filler at the end of disc one. It is the tune after Birdsong listed as Jam...

This was a hot show, made all the better by the opening acts, MOE and SCI. If you're a Kimock-era P & F fan, check this show out, especially Steve's playing on Footprints. Too bad the boys had to wrap up the show early due to a performance curfew.

This is the show after Jerry's death that convinced me that the vibe was still alive. In spite of the universally acknowledged success of the Baracco/Haynes/Herring/Lesh/Molo quintet, Steve Kimock brought something to the mix that I miss to this day. When you listen to the 30 minute Dancing in the Streets opener you'll understand what I mean. For me, Kimock comes closest of any guitar player to soaring the way Garcia did.
